According to data from the study 'The European e-shoppers of furniture and decoration'produced by Vente-Privee.com,' e-commerce 'is increasingly important in this sector. Thus, 45% of Spanish online buyers already purchase furniture or decoration through the Internet, a percentage slightly lower than the European average (60%).

Another highlight of the study, conducted through interviews with more than 4.000 people from Spain, France, Italy and Germany, is that 'e-shoppers' spend more money and buy more decoration items than offline consumers.

Regarding the selection criteria, only 15% state that they choose a piece of furniture based on a low price as a priority criterion. Design and aesthetics are the priority for 43% and value for money for 38%.

In Spain, the online decoration market is in full growth, since, according to Vente-Privée experts, "it is in times of crisis when the concern for decoration increases and more investment is made in furniture".

Custom furnishings

As for the areas of the house, the living room is where almost two out of five online shoppers declare that they dedicate more budget. By age and sex, men (47%) and women (53%) enjoy almost the same purchase of this type of item on the internet. The “type” buyer is young (45% is between 18 and 35 years old), urban (54%) and with high income (29%).

Online and traditional furniture stores join forces

Although the trend of buying decoration and furniture through the Internet is on the rise, many combine with the traditional channel; mainly in mid-range stores (64%), followed by decoration and DIY stores (46%) and lastly high-end and design stores (35%).
